During April and May, the business consulting company, Sintec, presented its investigation of Latin American companies with greatest growth and profitability at the IPADE Business School, at the headquarters in the capital and in Monterrey. Oscar Lozano and Manuel Oropeza, Sintec partners, spoke about “Competencies and Business Models for Profitable Growth: Lessons from the Best Companies in Latin America.” In these sessions, more than 120 students gathered from the IPADE MBA program.
Oropeza began the conference by mentioning that even when profitable growth is the main objective of any company, according to an investigation by Sintec of 132 leading companies in Latin America, no more than 20% achieve it. He emphasized that just establishing guidelines will not assure successful results. The “how-to’s” must also be established and executed. Growth by itself does not necessarily produce profitability. Profitability implies a better use of resources along the value chain. This better use is achieved via the development of practices, processes, and a management system. Growth, for its part, brings with it a greater complexity in terms of products and clients. Oscar Lozano, Sintec managing partner, concluded that the big lesson from this investigation is that profitable growth is generated through competencies integrated in a business model that has elements relevant to the market and capable of generating value.
Manuel Oropeza also spoke about the different projects that Sintec has developed with leading companies in more than 10 Latin American countries. He explained that Sintec’s focus consists of developing organizational competencies on commercial and operational topics to bring about the business strategy outlined by general management and to generate profitable growth.
